About the Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation
Who We Are
The Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation is an initiative led by the private sector, with collaboration from public servants, to create the support structure necessary to build trust in our community.
The Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation serves the following areas:
To be the leading advocate of public safety in the greater St. Cloud region.
Our vision is to engage the community to promote initiatives that support Fire, Police, and Emergency Service providers that serve our communities in Benton, Sherburne and Stearns Counties.
What We Do
We own real estate to establish community outposts in troubled neighborhoods to improve public safety, quality of life, and community engagement.
We will act as a fiscal host to support fundraising for public safety initiatives.
We will provide public recognition and support for the public safety community and for community members and organizations that promote public safety.
We will support youth and nurture their interest in public safety and public safety careers.
Meet Our Board
City of St. Cloud Planning Commission, Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation
Bill Mund is a lifelong resident of St. Cloud. After graduating from Apollo High School in 1977 he spent six years serving in the United States Navy. He returned to St. Cloud in 1983 and was hired by the St. Cloud Fire Department. Bill served the fire department for the next 32 years, the last twelve as Chief of Department. Chief Mund retired in May of 2015. During his fire service career, Chief Mund was active in both statewide and national fire service organizations. He is a Past President of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs, served on the Statewide Radio Board for ten years, and was the Minnesota representative to the International Association of Fire Chiefs Great Lakes Division.
In retirement, Bill remains active serving on the City of St. Cloud Planning Commission and the Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation.
CEO, Myres Consulting, COO, DAYTA Marketing
Brian Myres of Myres Consulting and DAYTA Marketing is originally from Pequot Lakes MN. He moved to St Cloud Mn in 1980 to obtain a BS degree in Finance from SCSU and had a successful banking career spanning 36 years. Most recently as Managing Vice President of Capital One 360. Prior to the acquisition by Capital One, Brian was one of the founders Citizens Savings Bank and ING DIRECT in the US and led both the operations and sales operations areas of ING DIRECT USA.
Today Brian resides in Clear Lake with his wife Karla and three sons and is enjoying his post banking career as a management consultant and community volunteer and board member of the Greater St Cloud Public Safety Foundation, Greater St Cloud Development Corp, the JA Wedum Foundation.
Joseph D. Hellie, MHA
Vice President, Strategy and Network Development, CentraCare Health
As Vice President of Strategy and Network Development for CentraCare Health, Mr. Hellie is responsible for strategic planning, business development, and government relations and has responsibility for the CentraCare EMS program.
Previous responsibility for Emergency services, disaster preparedness and serving on the Stearns County EMS Task Force have fostered a deep respect for the role of public safety in our communities and in the goal of improving health and wellbeing of our residents.
CEO of Wollak Construction Inc, Wollak Development Inc., and ER Wollak Trucking Inc.
Ernie Wollak has spent the last 43 years building homes and developing area land for residential use.
Ernie is an active member of many local community organizations including; 40+ years with Lions International, St. Cloud Metro Lions, Central Minnesota Builders Association, Benton County Historical Society and the Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation. In addition, Ernie was the Coordinator and Project Manager for the “DARE” House in 1994 and more recently the Community Outpost (COP) House in 2016.
Ernie and his wife Terri spend their free time enjoying their twins daughters and their spouses, Maria (Derek) and Christina (Chris) and spoiling their four grandchildren, Mikayla, Carter, Camryn and Tristan.
Superintendent, St. Cloud Area School District 742
Willie Jett is in his fourth year as Superintendent for St. Cloud Area School District 742. Willie received his Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education at the University of Illinois, Chicago; and his Master of Education at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has teaching experience in the Anoka-Hennepin, Osseo Area, and Minneapolis Public Schools. He has been an Administrator in the Osseo, Hopkins, and St. Paul School Districts.
Willie lives in St. Cloud with his wife Tamara, and children Drake and Jasmine.
Chairman, GeoComm Board of Directors
Tom Grones began his career in emergency services at North Memorial Medical Center in 1971. In 1983 he moved to St. Cloud to accept the position of County Emergency Services Director and County Emergency Medical Services Coordinator, which later included the design, development and management of the County 9-1-1 system. In 1988 he was hired as the Executive director of the Central Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Council. Tom and his business partner Dan Rudningen founded GeoComm, a company dedicated to the integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with 9-1-1 telephone systems within the public safety industry. Today, GeoComm provides GIS data development services integrated into GeoComm’s proprietary 9-1-1 center software products in over 1,100 public safety agencies in 48 states. In 2013 Tom transitioned from the role of President and CEO to his current position of Chairman of GeoComm Board of Directors, a position he continues to hold. Tom has been a Board Member of the Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation since 2017.
Tom earned a bachelor’s degree from Hamline University in St. Paul Minnesota and did graduate work at Texas A&M University in College Station Texas. He and his wife Janet continue to live in St. Cloud.
Director of Strategic Initiatives and Communication, Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation
Sonja Gidlow brings collaborative experience from executive positions held in private business, the non-profit sector and higher education. She has earned a master’s degree in psychology and a doctorate in education. Sonja currently serves as director of strategic initiatives and communication at the Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation. In addition to the Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation, she serves as a director on the boards of Anna Marie’s Alliance and Women’s Fund of Central Minnesota.
Sonja and her husband, Tim have one daughter who is attending college in Lacrosse, WI. Tim manages the family’s wood manufacturing business in Paynesville, Minn. called WoodMax.
Executive Director for Major Gifts, Saint John’s University
Troy Fritz of Saint John’s University is a long-time resident of St. Cloud. He attended Saint John’s University and obtained his BS in Natural Science and then did graduate work at the University of North Dakota. He spent 16 years working in youth non-profits locally. His work history includes the Boys and Girls Clubs, Boys Scouts and serving as the Executive Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters in St. Cloud. Currently he is the Executive Director for Major Gifts at Saint John’s University.
Troy has been active in the local St. Cloud Rotary Club having served as the Co-Chair for the renovation of Lake George/Eastman Park and is currently on the executive committee and chairs the entertainment committee for Summertime by George! He most recently served as the Club’s President in 2017-18. He is also a member of the St. Cloud Park and Recreation Advisory Board. Troy resides in Cold Spring with his wife Sheila and has two sons and two daughters.
CSO, DAYTA Marketing
Erin Perry is the Chief Strategy Officer at DAYTA Marketing. Her work in the St. Cloud community includes serving as Marketing Director for the Greater St. Cloud Public Safety Foundation, working as co-organizer for TEDxStCloud, and membership on the St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. She drives collaborative innovation within the organizations she volunteers and works for, to make the St. Cloud region a great place to live.
Treasury Management Payment Consultant, U.S. Bank
Caryn Stadther has over 20 years of banking experience in Central Minnesota, with an extensive background in depository operations, marketing, sales, and management. Caryn started her banking career in 1996 as a Teller with Zapp Bank in Downtown-St. Cloud. Caryn is currently a Treasury Management Payment Consultant for U.S. Bank and now works out of the very same downtown building that she started in back in 1996!
Caryn is an advocate for building strong community relationships through active engagement and partnership. She currently serves on Boards for the St. Cloud Greater Public Safety Foundation and the Sauk Rapids-Rice Education Foundation; is a 6-year member of the Campaign Cabinet for The United Way of Central Minnesota; and is the Vice-Chair for the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce “Top-Hat” Ambassadors. Caryn is a 1992 graduate of Apollo High School and a 2017 graduate of the American Bankers Association Bank Marketing School.
Bernadette “Bernie” Perryman
Owner, Batteries Plus Bulbs
Bernadette Ann Perryman, mostly known as Bernie, was born in Belleville, Illinois. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing at the Franciscan Quincy College in Quincy, IL, before beginning her career in the “beer business” in 1982. In 1999, Bernie left the corporate world and moved with her husband, Keith, to St. Cloud. She held minority ownerships and managed two Anheuser-Busch distributors and served as the general manager of a Coors Distributor.
In August 2016, Bernie changed her career and business focus from beer to batteries. She purchased two Batteries Plus Bulbs franchise stores in St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids, Minnesota.
Throughout her career, Bernie has been committed to building a stronger community and is active in many organizations. Her community leadership has included the chair and member of St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce Board and Government Affairs Committee; St. Cloud Economic Development Authority, United Way Board of Directors and Branding Committee, CentraCare Health Foundation, Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity Breakfast co-chair, St. Cloud Rotary member and Executive Committee member, Governor appointed to Minnesota Judicial Selection Committee, St. Cloud Technical College Foundation Board Chair and member, Minnesota Community Outpost House Board and SCORE Foundation volunteer. In 2017, Bernie and Keith were selected and honored with the CentraCare Health Foundation Beacon Society Award.
Katy Kirchner, MPH, BSN, PHN
Director of Coordinated Care and Correctional Care, CentraCare
Katy Kirchner works at CentraCare Health as the Director of Coordinated Care and Correctional Care. She previously was the Director of Public Health for Morrison County and served on the executive team for the MN Local Public Health Association. As a servant leader, Katy enjoys convening widely diverse sectors to promote strategies for improving the health of the community. She has a Master’s Degree in Public Health with an executive healthcare emphasis as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Biology and Psychology. Katy is a part of the Population Health Leadership Team and the lead for the Community Health Needs Assessment at CentraCare. She is a member of the Rotary Club of St. Cloud and pursuing her Doctor of Public Health from the University of Illinois, Chicago School of Public Health.
